## Description

Facing South is the online magazine and email newsletter operated by the Institute for Southern Studies, a distinguished research, media, and education center based in Durham, North Carolina. Established in 2000, Facing South has gained national recognition for its investigative journalism and thorough analysis of social, political, environmental, and economic issues throughout the Southern United States. The platform is dedicated to exposing abuses of power, holding influential entities accountable, and amplifying the voices of everyday individuals working towards meaningful change in their communities.

In addition to its acclaimed articles, which are published under a Creative Commons license allowing for free reprints with proper attribution, Facing South contributes to public discourse by highlighting critical trends and fostering civic engagement. The Institute for Southern Studies also has a legacy of producing the award-winning print journal Southern Exposure from 1973 to 2010, and it continues to support independent media initiatives aimed at promoting social and economic justice across the region. Join them in their mission to build a better South by subscribing or supporting their work.
