However, thanks to the efforts of Bob Chorney and a group of dedicated supporters, Farmers' Markets Ontario was established in 1991. Today, fueled by the demand for local food and products, farmers' markets serve as essential retail hubs, connecting farmers with shoppers through direct sales. Over the past decade, farmers' market sales in Ontario have seen significant growth, estimated at 10-12% annually, with an economic impact of over $2.5 billion. Farmers' Markets Ontario has been instrumental in advocating for markets with municipalities, regulators, and potential funders to ensure the health and sustainability of Ontario farmers' markets.
