## Description

The Béal Átha na Muice Farm Succession & Well-Being EIP Project is an initiative focused on helping farming families in County Mayo, Ireland, navigate the emotional and practical challenges of farm succession and inheritance. Recognising that transferring a family farm involves far more than a business decision, the project explored how farmers, their partners and family members experience succession planning and what support they need to make informed decisions.

The project worked with 30 farmers, assessing individual needs and connecting participants with relevant expertise through one-to-one discussions and meetings. Its operating group brought together specialists in agricultural consultancy, law, tax and accountancy, physical health, mental health and well-being, alongside academic research expertise. The project aimed to identify families’ concerns, provide appropriate guidance, support thoughtful decision-making, and assess well-being outcomes and gaps in available support.

The initiative has concluded, and its final report is available through the project website. Based in Swinford, Mayo, the project was led by agricultural consultancy Carroll Consultancy, with support from its partners and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.
