## Description

Fatal Encounters is a brand dedicated to creating an impartial, comprehensive, and searchable national database of individuals who have been killed during interactions with police. Founded and directed by D. Brian Burghart, an esteemed journalist and researcher, Fatal Encounters aims to provide citizens with the information they need to understand the extent of officer-involved deaths and explore ways to minimize them. With a background in journalism and access to public records, D. Brian Burghart has compiled nearly 29,000 records of police-related deaths since January 1, 2000, thanks to the support of generous donors. The brand's website offers various tools and visualizations to explore the data in detail. By analyzing the circumstances and patterns surrounding these incidents, Fatal Encounters sparks a vital conversation about the need for improved training and policies within law enforcement.
