## Description

Fat Girls Hiking is an outdoor community and fat-activism brand dedicated to body liberation, representation, and more welcoming access to nature. Guided by its motto, “Trails Not Scales,” the organization presents outdoor time as a form of self-care and encourages people to explore at their own pace. Its group hikes are led from behind so participants are not left behind, and its community aims to create safer outdoor spaces for fat and marginalized people. The organization welcomes people across ages, races, ethnicities, religions, classes, abilities, genders, and sexual identities, and does not permit diet talk, weight-loss talk, body shaming, or bigotry in its spaces.

Fat Girls Hiking supports its community through local chapters in cities and regions including Portland, Houston, Denver, and New York City, as well as hikes and other events. Its website offers hiking guidance, resources, blog stories, and information about plus-size activewear. The brand also shares personal perspectives through its “Be Heard” features and promotes an inclusive guide to getting outdoors at any size or ability.
