## Description

The Faulhaber Edition is an innovative critical online project dedicated to publishing the diaries of Michael Cardinal von Faulhaber, alongside supplementary documents from 1911 to 1952. This unique initiative marks the first systematic transcription of Faulhaber’s writings from Gabelsberger shorthand into a publicly accessible format. As a prominent figure in the Catholic Church, Faulhaber navigated significant historical events, including the First World War, the Weimar Republic, and the rise of the Third Reich, influencing the socio-political landscape of Germany and beyond.

The diaries serve as pivotal sources for historians, shedding light on the interplay between religion and politics, the Church's responses to totalitarian regimes, and cultural developments of the 20th century. The project also aims to preserve the Gabelsberger shorthand, a vital cultural technique, while enhancing research infrastructure through advanced database technologies. With regular online updates, the Faulhaber Edition invites scholars and the public alike to explore this compelling narrative and its implications for religious and cultural history.
