## Description

Family Care Councils of Florida (FCCs) is a statewide network of volunteer councils dedicated to supporting Floridians with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. Established more than 30 years ago, the organization includes a Statewide Council and 15 local councils. Members are appointed by the Governor and include people with disabilities, as well as parents, siblings, grandparents, and guardians of individuals eligible for services from the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD).

Working in partnership with APD, the FCCs educate and empower individuals and families, promote dignity and choice, and help ensure their voices inform policies and services. Council members mentor families, share information about resources, educate legislators, host educational forums, review APD policies, and advocate for positive change. Their work supports people with disabilities in living, learning, and working in their communities.

Families and self-advocates can connect with a local council, join its activities, share experiences, and build relationships with others.
