About
Description
The City of Federal Heights, located in the Denver Metropolitan Region, is a vibrant home rule city and bedroom community only 12 miles northwest of downtown Denver. With a rich history dating back to its incorporation in 1940, Federal Heights covers an area of 1. 78 square miles.
What sets Federal Heights apart is its undeniable allure and range of attractions. Proudly serving as the home of Water World, one of the largest water parks in the nation, the city is also an integral part of the renowned Hyland Hills Recreational District. The name Federal Heights originated from a subdivision called North Federal Heights, which was platted in 1925 when Federal Boulevard was nothing more than a two-lane dirt road.
The Heights portion of its name refers to the striking elevated bench lands that separate the South Platte and Clear Creek river systems from the Boulder Creek watershed. These scenic benches offer breathtaking views, stretching from Pike's Peak in the south to Long's Peak in the north, and from Mount Evans in the west to the Denver International Airport in the east.
