## Description

Ferðafélag Íslands is an Icelandic travel and outdoor organization whose purpose is to encourage and facilitate travel around the country. It helps people explore Iceland through guided hikes and trips, walking-route information, safety guidance, equipment checklists, GPS tracks, and advice on conditions and preparation. Its programs include a range of routes and destinations, with trip planning information and activities for different ages and interests.

A central part of the organization’s work is operating mountain huts with its regional branches. Its huts are located at 41 sites across Iceland and are open to everyone, while members receive discounted rates. The organization also provides accommodation and camping information, hut rules, booking services, and updates on seasonal access and conditions.

Ferðafélag Íslands publishes the annual Árbók, alongside educational publications and other reading about Iceland’s landscapes, nature, history, and communities. Its website features route guides, news, photographs, and information about local branches, membership benefits, and events.
