## Description

FIBRO, the Barcelos Association for Fibromyalgia and Chronic Diseases, is a nonprofit association supporting people living with fibromyalgia and other chronic conditions. Based in Barcelos, Portugal, it was formed from an informal patient group established in 2012, originally called PAAVF (Sharing, Supporting and Learning to Live with Fibromyalgia). The association is made up largely of people with direct experience of chronic illness, giving it insight into the challenges patients and their families face.

FIBRO provides emotional, social and informational support, shares guidance about fibromyalgia symptoms, diagnosis and impacts, and helps people find direction in accessing healthcare. It also offers opportunities to join the association and take part in community activities, events and awareness initiatives. Beyond individual support, FIBRO works to inform the public, promote inclusion and defend the rights of people with chronic illnesses. Its civic advocacy has included participating with MYOS and APJOF in a public petition presented to Portugal’s Assembly of the Republic.
