## Description

FIDELIO is a European research and training network focused on bone fragility in people with diabetes and the development of a personalised medicine approach. The initiative addresses how diabetes affects bone health, including its association with increased fracture risk and poorer fracture healing. Running from 2019 to 2024, the EU-funded project brought together a European consortium coordinated by scientists at the Faculty of Medicine Carl Gustav Carus, TU Dresden. Supported by €3.8 million from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme, FIDELIO trained 14 early-stage researchers to investigate the links between metabolic disease and the skeletal system and to help address challenges associated with an ageing society. The network’s activities included research, specialist training courses, workshops, conference participation and opportunities for fellows to share their work. Its website also features project news, information about research partners and fellows, awards and publications, and podcast conversations with senior researchers and supervisors. FIDELIO connects scientific collaboration with researcher development to advance understanding of diabetes-related bone health.
