The Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease (PFCD) is an internationally-recognized organization dedicated to raising awareness about chronic disease, which is the leading cause of death, disability, and rising healthcare costs. Chronic diseases like diabetes, COPD, cancer, depression, obesity, and heart disease are responsible for the majority of healthcare spending in the United States. Shockingly, more than half of American adults have at least one chronic condition, and nearly one in three have two or more. Chronic diseases account for 90 cents of every healthcare dollar spent in the country, totaling a staggering $2.3 trillion in 2011 alone. Despite the widespread impact of chronic disease, it often does not receive enough attention from the public and policymakers. To combat this issue, the PFCD has formed a national partnership consisting of various stakeholders, including patients, healthcare providers, community organizations, businesses, and labor groups. Their mission is to educate the public, mobilize Americans to advocate for change, and challenge policymakers to address the rising rates of preventable and treatable chronic diseases. By enacting policy changes and promoting healthier lifestyle choices, the PFCD aims to alleviate the burden that chronic diseases place on the healthcare system.
