## Description

The Foundation for International Law for the Environment (FILE) is a not-for-profit philanthropic organization dedicated to accelerating legal action on climate change. Our mission is to change the systems responsible for climate change by advocating for governments and corporations to take action. We focus on reducing climate impact while supporting a transition to a democratic, cooperative, and regenerative society.

Through grant-making and in-house legal expertise, we empower our partners to deliver strategic and innovative legal interventions. By supporting lawyers in their own countries to bring their cases, we aim to unlock systemic changes in finance, policy, and social systems needed to protect us from climate change.

With over 250 cases in 54 countries and partnerships with over 75 organizations, our impact and global reach are extensive. The power of the law, both directly and indirectly, can bring about significant policy and practice changes, as well as signal wider shifts in these systems.

As a regrantor, we receive grants from philanthropic donors and make onward grants to partners aligned with our charitable aims and purposes. We do not seek profit from our activities.
