Finlandia University is a prestigious private liberal arts college located in Hancock, Michigan. Established in 1896 by Finnish immigrants as Suomi College, it is the only institution of higher learning in North America founded by Finns. This unique heritage is evident throughout Finlandia's campus, which is home to the Finnish American Heritage Center, the cultural center of Finns in North America.


At Finlandia University, students can pursue associate and baccalaureate degrees in various disciplines including art and design, business, liberal studies, and health sciences. The university offers a curriculum and library of resources focused on Nordic studies, and hosts Finnish exchange students and interns each year. Additionally, Finlandia University publishes the Finnish American Reporter, a monthly newspaper celebrating Finnish American heritage.


With accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission, Finlandia University provides an exceptional education that is also affordable. The university offers several unique tuition initiatives, numerous merit-based scholarships, and has one of the most affordable tuition rates in the upper Midwest for a private university. In fact, 100 percent of full-time domestic students receive some sort of financial aid.


Located in Michigan's beautiful Keweenaw Peninsula, Finlandia University offers students a picturesque campus surrounded by natural beauty. Finlandia University's athletic teams, known as the Lions, compete in the NCAA Division III. The university offers 10 sports including basketball, volleyball, soccer, hockey, football, baseball, and softball. The Finlandia Lions proudly represent their school with their distinctive school colors, Finlandia Blue, Finlandia White, and Anthracite Black.
