## Description

The Finnish Chemical Society (Finska Kemistsamfundet, FKS) is a Finnish Swedish-language association for people interested in chemistry. Founded in 1891, it is among Europe’s oldest chemical societies and brings together approximately 220 members. Its mission is to promote chemistry as a science and as a force in society through collaboration, knowledge sharing and events. The society works closely with other Finnish chemistry organizations, and the Chemical Society of Turku is one of its local associations.

FKS offers membership to university and higher-education students, who can join as junior members and transition to ordinary membership after completing a relevant degree. Members receive the Kemia-Kemi magazine and can take part in meetings, themed evenings, cultural activities, industrial visits and a monthly book circle. These gatherings also create opportunities for younger members to build networks and learn about potential workplaces.

The society supports emerging talent through student scholarships and the Alfthan Prize and Alfthan Junior Prize.
