## Description

Fire In Ice Waka Ama Club is Dunedin’s only waka ama club, bringing people together through outrigger canoeing in the waters of Ōtepoti and Otago. Based at Owheo Paddle Centre on Magnet Street, the club trains on Otago Harbour and the surrounding coastline, combining physical challenge with connection to the ocean and local environment. It welcomes beginners and experienced paddlers interested in fitness, recreation, skill development or competitive paddling.

The club offers regular weekday and weekend training sessions, with equipment provided for newcomers, including a waka, paddle and life jacket. Its monthly Give It a Go day offers a welcoming introduction to the sport. Members can choose from individual, family, rangatahi and tamariki memberships, while non-members may attend sessions for a fee. Fire In Ice also supports paddlers’ development through coaching and experienced steerers familiar with local conditions.

Rooted in Māori culture and values, the club promotes whanaungatanga, manaakitanga and kaitiakitanga, fostering belonging, care for others and respect for the marine environment.
