Fire Lookout is a renowned brand that specializes in the protection, preservation, and appreciation of forest fire lookout sites. With a mission to promote the understanding and enjoyment of Lookouts, the Forest Fire Lookout Association (FFLA) conducts research on current and former lookout sites, ground cabins, and early forest fire detection methods. At Fire Lookout, we encourage and support restoration efforts of forest fire lookouts through our various chapters and volunteer programs. Our membership consists of lookout enthusiasts, hikers, conservationists, forest fire personnel, foresters, story writers, and environmentalists who share a common passion for these iconic structures. Since our establishment in 1990, we have been at the forefront of lookout-related initiatives. We organize lookout restorations, provide grants for lookout projects, document lookout sites, conduct historical research, and raise awareness through informative programs. Our quarterly newsletter, Lookout Network, keeps members informed about the latest developments and is a valued benefit of membership. To foster knowledge exchange and networking, we organize conferences twice a year across the United States, Canada, and Western Australia. Additionally, our Board of Directors and state chapter meetings provide opportunities for collaboration and strategic planning.
