## Description

First Steps Wellness Centre is a non-profit organization with charitable status, established in 2010 to support functional recovery, independence, and quality of life for people with neurological injuries and conditions. With facilities in Regina, Saskatchewan, and Sherbrooke, Quebec, the centre provides specialized, community-based rehabilitation using intensive, activity-based therapy tailored to each client.

Its programs serve people with spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, stroke, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, multiple sclerosis, and other neurological conditions. The Children’s Program focuses on motor planning, body awareness, development, and independence through intensive, individualized activities. Neurorehabilitation services are designed to address a broad range of neurological needs.

The centre also offers Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) cycling, which uses electrical stimulation to activate muscles and create patterned movement, including for people who use wheelchairs. Through parasport training, First Steps supports athletes with neurological disabilities and operates as a Canadian Sport Centre Saskatchewan GymFit Facility. Its overall approach emphasizes recognizing each person’s potential and building practical functional gains through research-informed methods and specialized equipment.
