## Description

FishBase is a global online resource for information about fishes, served by the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences and supported by a consortium of collaborators. Its extensive database covers more than 36,700 species, with over 333,200 common names, 66,300 pictures, and 68,500 references. Users can search by common or scientific name, browse information by fish family, explore identification keys, and consult species records, photographs, and references. The site also offers educational and discovery resources, including a fish quiz, an ichthyology course, FishBase Book, LarvalBase, and FishWatcher. A recently launched Genetic Diversity Risk Indicator helps users turn COI-π genetic diversity data into conservation-ready risk assessments and compare populations across global, regional, and temporal scales; genetic diversity data are available for more than 900 species. FishBase provides multilingual access and links to mirror sites in several countries. Its tools and reference materials serve people seeking to identify, study, teach, or support conservation of fish, bringing species information and related research resources together in one searchable platform.
