## Description

FishNet 2 is a data portal that provides open access to fish specimen records held by natural history museums, universities, and other participating institutions. The project gathers data periodically from provider databases and stores them in a cache, helping users search records and access them quickly. Its tools support searches by taxon, location, institution or catalog number, and date range, as well as polygon-based searches. Users can also map and visualize records and download data.

FishNet 2 is intended to support non-profit educational use and personal research by students and scholars. Records are supplied “as is,” and the project and data providers do not guarantee their accuracy, completeness, or currency. Users are encouraged to verify records against specimens and associated documentation, report questionable information to providers, and acknowledge both the original institutions and FishNet 2 when presenting or publishing data. Redistribution or resale is not permitted without written consent from the relevant curatorial authorities.
