Fjord CleanUP is an organization dedicated to cleaning up marine waste from the Oslofjord. Every week, volunteers engage in activities such as freediving, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), and walking to remove trash from the waterfront, both above and below the water's surface. These cleanups form the core of the organization's work. In addition to the cleanups, Fjord CleanUP collaborates with scientists, researchers, and entrepreneurs to develop innovative solutions for automated cleaning and trash scanning technology. Their goal is to reduce littering in and around Oslo Fjord, restore the fjord to a state free of rubbish and pollutants, and revitalize the ecosystem to encourage the return of marine life. Since its founding in 2021, Fjord CleanUP has made significant progress, pulling out tons of marine waste and engaging in important projects such as growing sugar kelp and creating a passionate community of fjordcleaners. Partner organizations like Frivannsliv and Madgoats provide the necessary gear for the cleanups, while iSekk pro-bono picks up the trash. Members also enjoy free burgers from Døgnvill after Sunday CleanUPs. Although picking up marine waste alone won't solve the climate crisis, Fjord CleanUP aims to create a ripple effect in society by raising awareness and inspiring change. They welcome individuals who want to contribute and make a difference in the climate crisis. With a diverse community and dedicated board members, Fjord CleanUP continues to make a meaningful impact in keeping our oceans clean.
