## Description

The Simons Foundation, co-founded by Jim and Marilyn Simons in New York City, is dedicated to advancing research in mathematics and the basic sciences. Their mission is to support discovery-driven scientific research that aims to understand the phenomena of our world. The foundation offers grants to individual investigators and their projects, as well as conducts in-house scientific research through the Flatiron Institute, which supports teams of top computational scientists. The Flatiron Institute addresses the challenges of data analysis, theory, modeling, and simulation in various scientific fields. It consists of several centers, including computational biology, computational astrophysics, computational quantum physics, computational mathematics, and computational neuroscience. The Simons Foundation also provides funding in the areas of life sciences, autism research, and science, society, and culture. They promote collaboration and cross-disciplinary interaction among investigators to foster breakthroughs in research. Additionally, the foundation supports education initiatives, such as Math for America, and publishes Quanta Magazine to share advancements in science and mathematics with the public.
