It provides species records, photographs and descriptions, alongside checklists, distribution maps, summary maps, literature references, herbarium and field lists, and downloadable resources. The project grew from systematic volunteer mapping begun in 1996 and developed into online databases for mosses, lichens and fungi. Over time, its contributors assembled around 6.5 million records across these three organism groups. The site also supports regional projects, including work on Bavarian mosses and lichens, fungi around Lake Ammersee, and mosses of the Allgäu Alps. Visitors can explore species information, project updates, videos, excursions and collaboration opportunities, while registered participants can contribute observations and help maintain data. The project has also supported regional mapping and red-list work by making its data useful to researchers and environmental authorities.
