## Description

Fleetwood Beach Wheelchairs is a volunteer-run, multi-award-winning charity making the seafront accessible to people with disabilities and additional needs. Since opening in 2020, it has provided a free, inclusive service that helps visitors enjoy the beach and sea safely, comfortably and with greater independence. The charity received The King’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2024, recognising the commitment of its volunteers.

Based at The Wheel Base in Fleetwood’s Central Car Park, the organisation lends specialist equipment tailored to each visitor. Options include Hippocampe all-terrain chairs for crossing soft sand, supportive beach wheelchairs for relaxing by the shore, and balloon-wheeled buggies for young children. Additional equipment includes a hoist, transfer boards, cushions and postural supports. Chairs are regularly serviced and sanitised after use.

Bookings are made by phone and are free, with at least 24 hours’ notice requested. The Wheel Base operates seasonally, with weekday, bank holiday and winter visits available by arrangement. Donations and grants fund the service, equipment and operating costs, helping families make beach memories together.
