## Description

Flora Incognita is a plant-identification and citizen-science project that combines artificial intelligence with public participation to help people explore plant diversity. Its flagship app identifies more than 30,000 plant species and provides detailed fact sheets covering characteristics, conservation status, and distribution. Users can save their plant observations, contributing data that supports scientific research and nature conservation.

The Flora Incognita app is free, contains no advertising, and can work without a continuous internet connection. These features make it suitable for use in schools, universities, and conservation initiatives, as well as for personal learning outdoors. The project also offers the Flora Capture app and shares news, publications, and information about citizen-science projects and collaborations through its website.

Flora Incognita is led by Professor Patrick Mäder of Technische Universität Ilmenau and Dr. Jana Wäldchen of the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry. Its work connects accessible digital tools with research into plants and the environment, inviting users to build their botanical knowledge while contributing observations to science.
