# FNC - **Website:** - **Primary alias:** `fnc.org.fj` ## Description The Fiji Nursing Council (FNC) is an independent statutory body established under Fiji’s Nursing Act 2011 to regulate nursing and midwifery across the country. Its central role is protecting public health, safety and well-being by ensuring practitioners work competently, ethically and to professional standards. The Council maintains the register of registered and enrolled nurses, midwives and nurse practitioners, and issues annual practicing licenses. It approves and monitors nursing and midwifery education programs, sets curriculum standards, and checks that training institutions meet required benchmarks. FNC also establishes and enforces professional conduct and ethics requirements, handles complaints, investigates concerns and applies disciplinary measures where standards are breached. To support ongoing competence, it promotes continuing professional development and requires at least 20 hours annually. In addition, the Council advises the Minister for Health and Medical Services on nursing policy, workforce planning and legislation.
