## Description

Focus Counter Violence provides reality-based self-protection training for people who want practical skills to protect themselves and their families. Its approach emphasizes awareness, sound judgment, de-escalation, and training in the real-life contexts where self-protection may be needed. Rather than centering instruction on a particular martial arts style or system, Focus aims to help students develop the skills, confidence, courage, and strength to respond effectively. The program is presented as accessible, with no belts, uniforms, or forms.

Focus offers classes, courses, events, and training for individuals, families, and young people. Testimonials describe students learning to manage reactions, recognize potential danger, and avoid physical confrontations where possible. The organization also provides training relevant to instructors and law enforcement, drawing on founder Michael Van Beek’s experience in martial arts, security, criminal justice, and personal protection. Alongside its in-person training and locations, Focus shares educational content through blogs and videos, offers corporate selections and advocacy, and sells Michael’s book, Focus Counter Violence, through Amazon and its online store.
