## Description

Iconotheca is an art-history and provenance resource published by Servola Systems GmbH. It documents individual works of art, tracing what each object is, where it was found, who made or owned it, where it is now, and what it has sold for when that information is available. The archive covers paintings, sculpture, antiquities, works on paper, metalwork, ceramics and glass, furniture and textiles, arms, clocks, and instruments. Its records feature works ranging from the Benin Bronzes and the Bayeux Tapestry to paintings by Pieter Bruegel the Elder and Johannes Vermeer.

The site also profiles historical and living artists, examines stolen, looted, confiscated, and recovered works, and provides information about museums and exhibitions worldwide. Its Study section explains provenance, attribution, and the art market through researched articles, a methodology guide, and a glossary. Iconotheca states that claims in its records are cited, invites corrections, and offers a weekly email letter featuring an artwork and its story, along with exhibition updates.
