Food Runners SF is a brand dedicated to alleviating hunger and preventing waste in San Francisco, while fostering a strong sense of community. With the help of volunteers, a paid truck driver, and generous individuals like you, Food Runners delivers over 17 tons of food each week that would otherwise go to waste. This means that they can provide over 20,000 meals to those in need every week in the city.

Founded by Mary Risley, a respected figure in the Bay Area food community, Food Runners started as a grassroots organization in 1987. Mary's simple idea of donating excess food from businesses to feed the hungry quickly gained traction. Today, Food Runners has grown to have over 250 active volunteers and partnerships with more than 450 restaurants, caterers, grocery stores, and farmers' markets.

Despite its expansion, Food Runners maintains its grassroots spirit and simplicity of purpose. It remains primarily run by volunteers, with a volunteer coordinator and truck driver to manage pickups and deliveries. Food Runners is not just about distributing food – it is a community where food donors, volunteers, and recipients all come together.
