About
Description
Foothills AHEC is a community-driven, non-profit organization serving northeast Georgia since 1999. As part of Georgia's network of six AHECs and 178 nationwide, their mission is to partner with communities to recruit, train, and retain healthcare professionals in the region. By improving the supply and distribution of healthcare professionals in medically underserved areas, Foothills AHEC aims to enhance the health of the citizens.
They offer a range of programs and services in their three program areas: recruit, train, and retain. In terms of recruitment, Foothills AHEC exposes youth and adults to healthcare careers through outreach presentations, camps, conferences, and resources in collaboration with educational partners. For training, they support advanced practice students during community-based training by providing clinical placement assistance, housing, and travel support.
In their efforts to retain healthcare professionals, Foothills AHEC works with community partners and state leaders to make Georgia a better place to work, providing incentives and continuing education opportunities. Their service area covers 31 counties in Georgia, ensuring that the healthcare needs of the communities in Banks, Barrow, Clarke, and many more counties are met. Foothills AHEC is committed to improving healthcare access and quality in the region, and their collaborative approach has made them an invaluable asset to the communities they serve
