Kanton Zürich is home to the leading forensic competence center in Switzerland, the Forensisches Institut Zürich (FOR). However, due to legal constraints, information on ongoing cases is provided exclusively through the media offices of the Canton or City Police of Zürich. Established in 2010 by merging the forensics departments of the Canton Police of Zürich and the Scientific Services of the City Police of Zürich, the FOR benefits from close collaboration with the two main partner organizations. Located in the Police and Judicial Center of Zürich (PJZ), the FOR serves as the go-to forensic resource for the Canton and City Police, maintaining its independence as a public-law institution.
