About

Description

Frameline is a media arts nonprofit brand with a mission to change the world through the power of queer cinema. They connect filmmakers and audiences in the Bay Area and worldwide through their various programs. One of their notable initiatives is the San Francisco International LGBTQ+ Film Festival, which was established in 1977 and is the longest-running, largest, and most recognized LGBTQ+ film exhibition worldwide.

With an impressive annual attendance of 60,000+, this festival is the most prominent LGBTQ+ arts program in the Bay Area. Frameline also offers year-round exhibitions, including Frameline Encore, a free film series that showcases diverse and socially relevant works. They have a vast collection of over 300 award-winning films, which they distribute globally to universities, public libraries, film festivals, and community organizations through Frameline Distribution, the only nonprofit distributor catering exclusively to LGBTQ+ films.

Furthermore, Frameline provides support to filmmakers through the Frameline Completion Fund, which awards grants annually for final editing and lab work. Since 1990, more than 150 films and videos have been completed with their assistance, often gaining international exposure. Experience the impact of queer cinema with Frameline and be part of their mission to promote LGBTQ+ storytelling and representation
