## Description

Frei­funk Wes­ter­wald is a community-driven project aimed at establishing a free, uncensored, unlimited, and decentralized data network using WLAN routers. Designed to foster open communication, it allows individuals, businesses, and public institutions to set up and operate so-called Freifunk nodes, equipped with special software. This initiative encourages everyone—regardless of background—to contribute to the network's growth. Users can connect their devices, such as smartphones and laptops, to the open Wi-Fi network, providing free internet access without registration, restrictions, or time limits. The internet traffic is anonymized through the Freifunk infrastructure, protecting node operators from legal liabilities, such as claims related to copyright infringement. Since its inception in 2015, Freifunk Westerwald has evolved and expanded, with a renewed community initiative in 2020 to enhance its network services. Anyone interested can join and help build the Freifunk network in the Westerwald region, promoting connectivity and digital inclusivity for all.
