## Description

French Canadian Roots is an online guide to researching Québec, French-Canadian, and Acadian ancestry. It helps visitors trace family lines from living relatives through Catholic parish registers and other historical records to ancestors who arrived in New France. Its beginner-friendly research guidance covers essential databases, including PRDH-IGD, the Drouin Collection, Généalogie Québec, BMS2000, and BAnQ, as well as Québec parish and notarial records.

The site explores founding ancestors and the history behind family lines, including the Filles du Roi, the Carignan-Salières Regiment, and the regions of France from which settlers came. It also offers resources for understanding surname origins, dit names, spelling variations, anglicized names, and DNA testing, with specific attention to French-Canadian endogamy and Acadian research. Additional content addresses the Acadian deportation, Cajun connections, and heritage travel to Québec.

French Canadian Roots also provides information about Canadian citizenship by descent, Bill C-3, and the records that may support a claim.
