## Description

Fried’s Cat Shelter is a nonprofit, no-kill, cageless sanctuary in Michigan City, Indiana, founded in 1977 by Hans and Lucille Fried. Established to provide a safe haven for homeless and abandoned cats, the shelter continues the founders’ commitment to protecting feline lives and addressing overpopulation through spaying and neutering. Its two buildings house more than 500 cats, including animals with special medical needs such as FIV, feline leukemia, and FIP. Every cat receives ongoing care from professional staff and volunteers and is guaranteed a home for life.

The shelter also operates a TNR clinic and promotes Trap-Neuter-Return as part of its efforts to manage community cat populations humanely. Its work is supported by donations, adoption, volunteering, and gifts of practical supplies such as food, litter, and cleaning products. Fried’s invites visitors to meet cats and learn about adoption during its public hours, while noting that intake may be limited during building renovations.
