## Description

The Friends of For-Mar Foundation, Inc., established in 1974 by Martha Merkley, is dedicated to supporting the For-Mar Nature Preserve and Arboretum in Burton, Michigan. Following the donation of the Merkley farm to Genesee County Parks, the foundation was created to ensure the development and preservation of this natural sanctuary in line with Mrs. Merkley's vision. Today, the foundation continues its vital work through a trust fund managed by Huntington Bank and collaborations with Michigan State University.

The board, comprising environmentalists, educators, and community members, oversees various educational and conservation initiatives. The Friends actively engage in projects that enhance the preserve's offerings, such as funding BioBlitz events for students and improving visitor amenities. Community involvement is encouraged, with regular meetings and an annual gathering facilitating collaboration and input from members. With a commitment to outdoor education and ecological preservation, the Friends of For-Mar Foundation plays a crucial role in maintaining this vital green space for future generations.
