## Description

Friends of Redtail Society is a grassroots, non-profit organization based in western Pictou County, Nova Scotia. Founded in 2007, it began with a campaign to purchase 313 acres of forest threatened by industrial clear-cutting. Inspired by the ecological values of Redtail Nature Awareness, a nearby nature education centre, the Society works to protect biodiversity and encourage respectful relationships with the land. Its vision emphasizes living in greater harmony with Earth’s processes while balancing the needs of human and non-human communities.

The Society acts as guardian and student of its forest, promoting responsible stewardship and ways of living from the land without damaging the systems that sustain life. Its work includes the Sheltering Forests campaign, Green Alert initiatives, and public events and educational activities. These include May Days, spring birding walks, winter animal-tracking sessions, and seasonal walks celebrating the local wild community. Friends of Redtail also shares information through its blog and organizes fundraising opportunities.
