## Description

Friends of the San Francisco Public Library is a nonprofit organization that raises funds and advocates for a strong public library system and equitable access to free resources throughout San Francisco. For more than 60 years, it has supported the Library as an investor, advocate, and champion, helping sustain long-term funding and robust programs across the city’s branches.

The organization invites community members to contribute through donations, memberships, legacy gifts, and other giving options, including its Library Preservation Fund and branch capital campaigns. It also supports library residencies and fellowships, including the Lisa Brown and Daniel Handler Residency and the James C. Hormel LGBTQIA Fellowship.

Friends offers several ways to shop and give. Its bookstore at the Main Library sells donated books, with an online store available through eBay and Amazon. The organization also accepts book and media donations by appointment at its San Francisco donation center. In addition, it hosts book sales and other events, and welcomes volunteers.
