## Description

The Folklore Society of Greater Washington (FSGW), established in 1964, is a vibrant non-profit organization dedicated to promoting folk music and dance traditions in the D.C. area. FSGW hosts over 200 events annually, offering a rich tapestry of concerts featuring both local and touring artists, weekly and monthly dances suitable for all ages, storytelling sessions, open jams, and music and dance workshops. One of their highlights includes annual festivals and retreats, such as the Washington Folk Festival and the Potomac River Shape Note Singing Convention.

Membership with FSGW not only grants free or discounted access to events but also supports artists by ensuring fair compensation for their creative work. With an emphasis on community engagement, they co-sponsor various programs and local events to foster collaboration among artists and participants. Whether you're an experienced dancer or simply wish to enjoy the rich culture of folk traditions, FSGW provides a warm and welcoming space for everyone to connect and celebrate these living traditions.
