## Description

Folklórny súbor Hornád is a Slovak folk-art ensemble based in Košice and the cultural representative of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University. Its history began in 1963, and it has performed under the name Hornád since 1992. The ensemble brings traditional culture to audiences through folk performances and choreographies, drawing on authentic source material and an individual, creative approach to artistic work. Its long-standing innovation has made it one of Slovakia’s leading folklore groups and a recognized influence in the field.

Hornád regularly appears at major festivals, including Východná, Heľpa, Myjava, Hrušov and Raslavice, and has earned numerous competition honors. It has been a laureate of Akademická Nitra and Akademický Zvolen, and won top distinctions at Jazykom tanca. In 2024, it received both the Chairperson’s Award and the Public Award of the Košice Self-Governing Region for its contribution to preserving and sharing traditional culture. The ensemble is overseen by the civic association FS Hornád and welcomes prospective members through auditions.
