Fort Payne City Schools, nestled at the foot of Lookout Mountain, is an innovative and stunning educational institution that aims to provide all students with a quality education. Led by Superintendent Brian Jett, the school system comprises five separate locations: Williams Avenue Elementary (Pre-K and select FPHS vocational classes), Wills Valley Elementary (K-2nd), Williams Avenue Elementary (3rd - 4th), Fort Payne Middle School (5th - 8th), and Fort Payne High School (9th - 12th). At Fort Payne City Schools, technology plays a prominent role in instruction, with interactive whiteboards in every classroom, campus-wide Wi-Fi, and 1:1 devices such as iPads and Chromebooks for all students.


The school system also utilizes various instructional apps and online tools. Additionally, Fort Payne City Schools receives Title I funding and serves approximately 3,300 students within a small community population of 14,000. The Fort Payne City Board of Education, comprised of community members appointed by the Fort Payne City Council, establishes policies and procedures in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations, codes, mandates, and best practices.
