## Description

Fulcrum is a community-based, open-source publishing platform serving mission-driven academic publishers. It helps publishers present the full range of their authors’ research, including books and multimedia scholarship, in formats designed to be durable, discoverable, accessible, flexible, and trustworthy. Its services support projects such as open-access books, ebook collections for libraries, and interactive digital works combining text, audio, video, playlists, or maps.

Built on research university library infrastructure, Fulcrum emphasizes preservation and stability while integrating with other publishing tools and the information supply chain. The platform is developed in partnership with open-source communities and aims to support inclusive access for readers. Its business model is intended to sustain the core service, with an emphasis on transparency and accountability.

Fulcrum provides nonprofit infrastructure for academic publishing and is offered as a hosted solution through a business development relationship with Lyrasis. Hosting and publishing support come from publishing and technology experts based at the University of Michigan Library. Publisher partners and hosted collections include university presses and other scholarly organizations.
