## Description

The Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) is a professional association founded in 1941 for people who cover college football across North America. Its membership includes journalists, broadcasters, publicists and executives connected with the sport, and now exceeds 1,200. Membership is limited to accredited media members and organizations affiliated with college football, with applications subject to board approval.

The FWAA supports the game and the professionals who report on it through work involving game-day operations, major awards and its All-America team. It presents or administers recognition including the Outland Trophy, Bronko Nagurski Trophy and Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award. The association also publishes news and commentary through its website, including The Fifth Down blog, and provides a media directory and member resources.

For aspiring and established writers, the FWAA sponsors scholarships and an annual writing contest with cash prizes and awards. Members may also access travel discounts, participate in the association’s annual meeting, and qualify for honors such as its Hall of Fame.
