## Description

Four Winds Nature Institute is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing environmental understanding, appreciation, and protection through community-based natural science education and research. Based in Chittenden, Vermont, it brings people of all ages together to explore the natural world in their own communities. Its educators and scientists help children and adults build science knowledge and skills, while encouraging creative problem-solving and environmental citizenship.

The institute’s Nature Program offers monthly natural science workshops in Vermont and neighboring states for adult volunteers who share nature lessons with schoolchildren. Its curriculum includes more than 40 hands-on lessons organized around five year-long themes. Nearby Nature from Home provides family-friendly, standards-based modules for exploring local nature together, while the Nearby Nature online publication offers seasonal lessons and activities.

Four Winds also provides professional development for K–12 teachers, early childhood educators, childcare professionals, camp staff, and community members. Offerings include place-based environmental education, outdoor teaching, and Knee High Nature workshops and learning communities focused on early childhood nature-based play.
