## Description

Gågatene Karl Johan is an Oslo organization dedicated to maintaining important features of the pedestrian area along Karl Johan. Since the 1970s, it has been responsible for the street’s festive Christmas lighting and for the heating system that melts snow on the street and its sidewalks. These services help preserve the area’s welcoming character through the winter season.

The organization’s practical maintenance work, including operation and repairs to both the snow-melting system and the Christmas lights, is carried out by Vaktmestergruppen AS, represented by Geir Tøyen. Gågatene Karl Johan describes its commitment as rooted in a long history and intended to continue well into the future.

The organization is based in Oslo and is supported administratively by OBOS Eiendomsforvaltning. Its board chair is Kaia Kongsli. Through its ongoing stewardship of seasonal lighting and street infrastructure, Gågatene Karl Johan contributes to the experience and upkeep of one of the city’s best-known pedestrian streets.
