## Description

The Georgia Carbon Sequestration Registry is a voluntary, nonprofit program established under Georgia Senate Bill 356 in 2004. It is administered by the Georgia Forestry Commission and the Georgia Superior Clerks Cooperative Authority, with technical support from the University of Georgia Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources and input from public and private stakeholders. The Registry provides Georgia forest landowners, municipalities, and public and private entities with an official, transparent, and consistent way to document and report carbon sequestration projects. Its current protocol supports estimating and reporting forest carbon stocks, while protocols for conservation tillage and urban forestry are planned. The Registry maintains records of carbon storage and accumulation, monitors and verifies registered projects, and helps participants access emerging environmental markets and market offset projects to potential purchasers. It also promotes the environmental, social, and economic contributions of forests and farmland, supports landowners and farmers, and educates the public about carbon sequestration, carbon offsets, and climate change.
