## Description

The Gesellschaft der Arno Schmidt-Leser (GASL), established in 1986, is dedicated to promoting and spreading interest in the works of the renowned German author Arno Schmidt (1914–1979). This literary society serves as a hub for enthusiasts and scholars alike, fostering a vibrant community that engages with Schmidt's complex narratives and cultural contributions.

Key offerings include an annual conference held every autumn, which combines a general meeting with a rich program of lectures and cultural events open to the public. The society also hosts a special gathering each January at Schmidt's birthplace in Hamburg to celebrate his birthday. GASL publishes a yearbook featuring discussions and essays presented during these events, alongside the quarterly periodical "Schauerfeld," which includes notes and reflections on Schmidt's work. Additionally, GASL has developed a searchable database for the complete Bargfelder Ausgabe, encapsulating Schmidt's extensive literary legacy. Through its events and publications, GASL continues to inspire readers and deepen appreciation for Schmidt's significant influence on literature.
