- **Website:** <https://gbif-staging.org>
- **Primary alias:** `gbif-staging.org`

## Description

GBIF, the Global Biodiversity Information Facility, is an international network and data infrastructure funded by governments to provide open access to biodiversity information. Its mission is to make data about all types of life on Earth available to anyone, anywhere. The network brings together more than 2,400 publishing institutions and provides access to over 3 billion occurrence records across 100,000 datasets. Researchers, policymakers and the public can explore information on species and observations, discover datasets and publishers, and use tools and resources such as GBIF’s API and documentation. GBIF supports biodiversity research and evidence-based decision-making in areas including climate change, invasive alien species, human health and threatened-species assessments. It also offers hosted portals that help national, institutional, regional and thematic communities share and use biodiversity data. Through programmes such as Biodiversity Information for Development and the Biodiversity Information Fund for Asia, GBIF helps build capacity to mobilize and apply data in research and policy. By connecting data publishers and users worldwide, GBIF strengthens the availability and usefulness of biodiversity information.
