About

Description

Geauga County Board of Developmental Disabilities (GCBDD), also known as the Metzenbaum Center, is a taxpayer-funded agency with a mission to help people live, learn, and earn in our community. With a history dating back to 1948, GCBDD serves nearly 1,000 individuals with developmental disabilities of all ages, from early childhood to senior citizens. GCBDD offers a wide range of services and programs, including early intervention, special education, school-to-work transition, 24/7 residential support for adults, employment support, and recreation/integration programs.

The agency coordinates resources and funding for these services, ensuring individuals receive the support they need to thrive. Founded by James Metzenbaum, a prominent Cleveland attorney and state senator, the Bessie Benner Metzenbaum Foundation laid the foundation for GCBDD's mission. Operating under the Geauga County Board of Developmental Disabilities since 1967, funds are provided by state and local sources, with Medicaid supporting waivers and the Residential program.
