## Description

Gebara is a Dutch provider of baby and children’s sign-language education, based in Zundert near Breda and Roosendaal. Founded by Silvia Vermeulen-S Schrauwen, a speech therapist and baby- and children’s sign-language instructor, the brand helps families and professionals use gestures to communicate with young children. Gebara explains that signs can support communication for any child, not only those with speech or hearing difficulties, and may have a positive effect on language development. Babies can begin to understand familiar signs from around six months and may start making signs themselves from around eight months, often before they can say their first words. Through repeated use in everyday interactions, gestures can help children express needs and observations and help adults understand them. Gebara offers courses for parents and courses for professionals, along with a webshop and informational articles. Its teaching encourages adults to use signs while speaking with children, giving families practical ways to support understanding, expression and connection as language develops.
